Dear friends,
After few years of hard work on my website, finally i have it - Google Sitelinks for my website in the Google search. It might not be a great achievement but, if felt like i should share what all i did that helped me get my site-links.
- make sure you have Easily spiderable, structured navigation
- Fairly high natural search traffic from organic search
- No broken links
- Inbound links from high quality sites
- Site age is atleast a few years
Most importantly
- Create an XML sitemap for your website and submit it through google webmaster tools and verify.
- Improve your website with quality content and improve good quality organic traffic
- Keep a tab on the "sitelinks" menu on the google webmaster dashboard since this is where google shows you the first sign of having a sitemap.
Hope this tips helps new webmasters who are interested to know on how to get your website a sitemap.
Mods: i know there have been discussion on sitemaps, but wanted to share my experience when i got the new sitelink, if you guys feel its not apt, pls move it to a the thread continuation.
thanks and all the best
Cheers, josh

First of all congrats! I'm not expecting any site links any time soon.
I was going to ask this question at Wordpress or Google, but it sounds like you may be able to answer it.
When I first set up my permalinks for my first Wordpress site I goofed bigtime.
When setting the custom structure, instead of putting in the appropriate tags (/%year%/%postname%), I put in the home page URL. So the homepage permalink read "websitename dot com/websitename dot com"
I've since corrected it, "website name dot com/year/postname", but in my Google webmaster tools it's still showing the old URL (websitename dot com/websitename dot) as a page not found error.
It's been a long time since I've fixed it and the correct permalink is listed in the account. Have submitted sitemap and everything seems fine.
Why is it still showing the error for the old permalink, is it anything I should worry about?
It's also showing 2 URL's as restricted by robots, (websitename dot com/search/cc.php) and (websitename dot com/search/fb.php?ses=)
I don't even know what these 2 URL's mean. What the heck are they?
Not very tech savy for a webmaster am I?
Anyway, thanks in advance, this question has been bugging me.
Also wanted to add, how long does it take for incoming links to be listed in webmaster tools. I have some month old links from wordpress.com and Blogger.com that aren't listed in my account yet, and I know these 2 sites get crawled frequently.

My site is well organized and I following google webmaster also so no 401 .so after two month it will disable so now i haven't site links
So i want to know reason to give unwanted links?

Hey Jimmy,
As per my understanding, basically it does not take "Years" but its been the last 1.5 years i have been receiving some good amount of targeted traffic and before that my site was not perfectly spyderable as well.

Thomas,
Kindly share your website link, or the amount of traffic you receive for your website, keywords etc. Since it really does matter if your blog or website has good amount of traffic inspite of being well structured.
In addition, before giving a permanent sitelink, there are occurrences that site-links keep fluctuating or disappearing - these are just good signs and cannot confirm we have sitelinks for sure.
cheers
Josh

Yeah. You must know how to create a sitemap. My friend taught me about this and I'm glad I now know this.

Hello Johsu.
I hope you do not think that I was trying to hijack your thread. But I saw mention of internal links, sitemaps, how to get spidered, and I thought this may be a good place to ask this question that I've had for quite awhile.
Anyway, didn't mean to put a question in the wrong place. I'll post it on Google or Wordpress.
Best Wishes,

Firstly i would suggest you to rinse and refresh your permalink structure for once. Then further re submit your website XML sitemap in your google webmaster control panel. Further i would suggest to do some external backlinking form regularly indexed blogs or forums so that google bots revisit again and reindex.
Another option could be adjust the crawl frequency in your webmaster controlpanel to more frequent. you could also install MBP ping optimizer plugin on your wordpress blog and add good urls to ping to in intervals.
these steps should get you back on track. Please let me know if i could help you better if not resolved.
Cheers
Josh

Did you create the sitemap yourself or use a sitemap generator?

creating an XML sitemap is simple, but when you have huge number of pages on your website or blog, its not possible to manually create a sitemap. My website has more than 2000 inner pages so i generated an XML sitemap. you could learn how to generate google sitemap here
Once you have the sitemap, you need to submit it at Google webmasters tool. Hope that helped.
Cheers
Josh

You are right. I just created a sitemap all by myself. It is very simple it only takes time especially if you have lot of suboages.

Well done, although, gets your sitelinks to appear on yourdomain.com is pretty easy to get, next step is to try getting one for your money keywords.

Buddy,
you are absoultely right, thats what am trying for next. But basically we need to understand that the most searched and accessed keyword link would automatically get updated on your sitelink. so my keyword research and optimization is already in the routine.
cheers

If you can't get sitelinkes on your money keyword, you can try the next best thing, IMO it's even better. Get another page on the website to rank for that paticular keyword, so you end up with 1 result and another underneath it tabulated. Which is killer for click through rate.
Also getting a youtube video to rank is pretty good as well.
