Contents of the page is always carries high weight on google algorithms. A good contents sites is always rank better compares to other sites.

but still links have also a big impact. as long as you dont copy than your content is ok.

yes i heard about it new algorithm focusing at content called Google panda and it slapped north America and lots of sites and blogs lost it rank and visitors
