I would hope Google will not use this as a metric when sorting results..

But still. Its a good idea if you stumble across a site a friend has used ( unless its xxx )

Maybe for personalised results only.

Google have stated in the past that they will not use such votes as a reliable source, this was when the toolbar had "thumbup" "thumbdown" buttons.

Spose it makes sense to do it for personal results ( much like the star and review buttons there currently )

I'm sure this button has a use and Google will not just add a button that doesn't make sense at all.

Yes, Google has stated this new service won't affect SERP, and I don't think it can collect enough data for it, after all, there are so many web 2.0 websites like digg, twitter and flickr, the only difference is this service is using toolbar form.

They could set up some global rating based on that, with search results being independent. Or, they could hire a slave to manually check the highly-liked pages and adjust their "internal pagerank".

It's great that Google created +1 button for voting. I don't know it will affect ranking or not. It is useful for other user who are searching on the same because this button tell how many people like the site.

I haven't used the +1 button yet, btw,

I have not used it yet and i think i won't use it. But i saw in many places that people are talking about it. I know the reason because its for Google and many people like everything Google does
