Hello,
I have noticed that Google has indexed two versions of my home page URL.
One as the normal and one with the random characters ?.*$ attached to the end.
I am sure this would be diluting home page ranking strength.
When I click on this search result, the page seems to load fine with those extra characters attached. However, this page does not actually exist on our server.
The first advice I received was to add these characters into parameter handling into Google Webmaster Tools so I have done that, then someone else advised that this was likely not a parameter issue.
We actually had some other issues with duplicate URL's "....index.html" and "..../front.html". I have now added the canonical tag which I understand will fix this.
However, I am not sure about the above URL with the ?.*$ characters. Any advice?
