For your next step:
From my own experience I would stay clear of articles, which I think is a natural step for those that are new to the constant journey to be one on Google, such as me. Not because they are bad (they don't bring you down) but because they don't bring you up, and they do require a gargantuan research effort to be original. I am not sure if you are thinking about articles, but if you are - that's my two cents.
I have started a new effort now;
I believe in the company I work for - their product is truly outstanding. I have put together a comparison site that I show universities and ask them to put a link in their career guidance section. I am very hopeful about this type of links as they to me would indicate real solid quality and consideration, which I am hoping the fabulously complex Google may agree with.
Perhaps something similar is possible for your business?
