We have a rumor that google is probably to buy the FF. I am not sure how this can be done as its an opensource but lets see what happens. You can read the article at

This has been in the works for quite a few months now and they aren't actually buying Firefox, as you said, it's open source. The rumour is that they plan to develop their own branded browser based on the Gecko rendering engine.

The plan to launch a browser is quite old but they have hired a FF developer and may think in that direction too.
