Optimise a couple of suitable pages for the local area and promote them.

I don't know what the heck's happening with Google Places and word from the inside (a Google employee in another department) is that they don't manage it at all.

I had a number of sites' places listings changed to "Pending Review" following a mnior change, a phone number, on one of them.

I waited, and waited, and then I waited a little more... Nothing.

OK, so I deleted them all, contacted customers and logged in remotely to create a few test listings and hey presto --> they worked.

However, if I make one minor change, a number, a character in an address, the listing goes offline yet again and it's easier (IMHO) to simply recreate the listing.

Anyone else have any thoughts on what's going on with google Places...?

I'm on Google Places, converted a few... so for me, I like it. Didn't have to do too much to get it either.

I havent had any problems with them, it's much better than Bing IMO (i've even talked to the engineers here in Washington, gave them my card telling them about the issues with my business listing, they never contacted me or fixed the issue).

Depends upon the quantity and quality of promotion you have done for your website.
