I am working with someone that has had a legal opinion posted on a web page for the 10th Circuit Court. He doesn’t mind it being accessible through the web, but when his name is looked up on Google that is the first thing that comes up. We are looking for a way to change the order on a Google search to change it from being the first thing that comes up.

Any ideas or suggestions out there?

Take it off the web...I bet you knew that was coming.

Usually this goes the other way 'round. There are actually a couple of things you could do but will hurt the whole page not just the article or op/ed.

If it's a static html page, try renaming the page to something different. Try moving the page to a sub-directory. Change keywords etc.

Unless anyone has more ideas??

Maybe deny access to it to the bots using the robots.txt file...

Here is the code if you want it just put this in a file called robots.txt and upload it to the root of your site

User-agent: *
Disallow: /the-file.html
