Pagerank...who needs it?

I am sorry but I am personally sick of pagerank. It is so overrated, all it does is give websites a general idea of where they stand for there popularity.

People take pagerank like a religion! I have been turned down by so many people interested in link exchanges because my website dosent have a pagerank yet even though it probably recieves more uniques than there websites!

New websites are shafted until they are able to build some pr and then can "socialize" with other websites in there catagory.

This reminds me of what a comedian once said: People should be issued cards according to how attractive they are. Say if you are issued a 7 you can only approach people between a 6-8. If you are required to talk to a 5 you can give him a little attitude, and you can punch a 2 in the face.

I am sorry but when I heard this the first thing that came to my mind was pagerank!

I think pagerank has a lot to do with website saturation, meaning new sites have a hard time achieving good rank.

you know what bugs me. people who want instant popularity/success. You think the sites with the high page ranks got those over night? no they didn't. they had to wait patiently and build links just like everyone else. sure it sucks people don't want to link to you because your lack of page rank, but thats life. personally ive passed up link exchanges with people with higher page ranks then me simply because i thought their site was crap. everyone has their own ways for determining who they link to. if you've got good content people will link to you. i waited three months before first getting a pr of 3. and another 3 months for a pr of 4. i honestly don't think that is as effective on getting in bound links as providing quality content. so my opinion is quit worrying about PR, and build your link campaigns through quality content.

I have to say, I am a bit more impatient this time around. When I owned my old website after one month I had an astonishing pr of 5! This was the first website I ever owned and I had a pr of 5!!! I have to say I was very proud of myself, yet after 2 months with my new website I see no change.

I guess it pays to be patient!

It takes considerable amount of time to get a google page rank. One should do link exchange & get enough links to website. You should have enough pages in website having well organized content. The keywords should be repeated in content. All pages in a website should have enough internal as well as external links.

I actually wrote an article on this subject inspired by this thread. Feel free to reprint it as long as you keep the bylines in place.

No doubt about it monkey, you're right. Quality content is what did it for me when I had no PR, and 4 years later and a ton of content, I have a 6. Yes, FOUR YEARS. But I didn't focus on PR. I built tools that people linked to (slowly). Then I decided a year ago (PR of 4) to build the tools for my visitors to add to their own site (with a "Powered by SearchBliss" image link on them), my link popularity spiked, and thus a PR of 6. I just keep at it, and who knows, maybe a PR of 8 next year.

The other disadvantage of PR is that it can be manipulated. If you have the money you can simple buy a high PR. Just pay a bunch of high ranking sites to link to you. Many SEO companies do just this...

PR means nothing, so does the backlink results that Google shows. Google is no longer interested in helping new search engine marketers manipulate results. Their advice is to create a good site and then let them decide.

I like this advice http://googlerankings.com/googlefriendly.php it is not from them but I agree from what they wrote, it aligns with what they are looking for.
