1- Put the main keywords of your content in the title. For example if you own a gaming site:
Games, PS2, XBOX, Cheats, Forums - MYSITE.com

2-Get quality referrers. Quality is more important than quantity. So, try to get PR4 or + referrers.

PageRank is independent of the content of the page and is only depends on the quality of the backlinks.

anchor text is also quite important.
Those words between tags <title></title><h1></h1> and so on are equally vital for PR.

We obviously need to distinguish between PR and search engine optimization here. Putting keywords in title and anchor tags are very helpful tips, and they will help your ranking, but they will not help PR. The only way to get a high PR is to get a lot of high-quality incoming links.

Your are right. The tips i gave were to optimize the search. But anyway, the only thing Webmasters want is get visitors from Google. By getting a good PR, quality partners and keywords, you have better chances to rais your traffic.

Very true... All these factors work together to determine your overall search engine ranking, and traffic volume.

So to clear up a bit of confusion, page rank is a comparison of importance between your site and every other site on google, regardless of what key words you optimise your site for. High PR helps you place above lower PR sites as you are judged as more important.

Putting key words in titles and key word density in content etc, is optimisation, which is will help you place higher in google results for your particular key words by being more relevant to a search.

Google somehow combines importance (PR) and relevancy(optimisation) and makes its results.

I believe I am correct in this but feel free to correct me.
