I want to use the blog and ping method to promote a new website. My question is, will this method work the same with all blog sites? For example, I setup a blog at BmtGuide.com, and everytime I publish a new blog it auotmatically pings this unknown server http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ Will using my own site be just as effective as using a blog at blogger.com, and does the ping server located at http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ automatically ping my.yahoo.com?
Pingomatic is the best site to use for blog and ping. If you have a look at that site you'll see it pings Yahoo as well as many others. If your blog sends a ping to pingomatic then theres no need to set up a blogger account and do it manually.
I use wordpress which does the same thing.

I don't see why this could give you better help and results.
because the search engine spiders know when to visit your site. personally if you have a busy blog thats already been indexed i dont think it will help much if at all. but if you are just starting a site, and want to get it crawled faster this wouldnt hurt.
i personally find if you have comments open on your website pinging one of these sites to be a nuisance. most comment spammers use these sites to find new websites to leave their comment spam on.
