My google backlinks on one of my sites keeps going from 77 to 119 over the last couple of months. Its always the same 2 numbers and i lose rankings when it drops.

Not sure why but i thought info might be useful to someone.

Oh and BTW, whats going on with google? Do they even bother to update page rank any more?

probably different DCs, happens all the time.

Toolbar PR display gets updated evey few months, Not that it matters much anyway.

I thought it mattered quite a lot. After each update i see a large change in rankings.

IMHO, The number of backlinks seem more important than the pagerank shown in google toolbar

My backlinks fluctuate in both Google and lately in MSN (some pretty wild fluctuations). Yahoo is the best engine that you should use to accurately see how many backlinks you have.

The real PR is of some small use to rankings in some market areas. The toolbar PR however is an inaccurate, rarely updated representation of the actual number that only Google knows. Certainly not worth stressing about.
Quite honestly for the sites I look after I couldn't tell you the PR of any one of them, never checked, never likely to.

wht is the importance of the BL shown by google. Why do they show some links and not others?

all I can say is who knows? it appears to be a random selection with no discernable criteria (that we can see)
