Hi, I used Padawan's directory submission list (I'm wading my way through it) and yesterday I got a reply that said if my meta tags weren't right, I wouldn't be listed.

What's a meta tag?
Where is a meta tag?
How do I make my meta tags right?

Meta Tags are basically a description of your page that you put in the <Head> portion of your HTML. They used to be a guide for the search engines where you list your keywords, site description, and a few other things. There are hundreds of Meta Tag Creators that you can just fill out a form and it will create the code for you. You then just have to add it to your pages.

It isn't vital you have them for the most part anymore, but there are still some small search engines that cannot index your site without them. Here is one example of a URL with a metatag creator:

Hi Kyle,

I don't ever see my html because the program I use, SiteBuilder, just does everything.

But is that why when I add html blocks, that it shows up in my description???

I mean by html blocks, those little things that are supplied by a directory when they ask for a reciprocal link...

here's and example of where what the directory asked me to put on my page, turns up in the directory's description of my page.... I'll put the bit in red, so you can see what was in the html block

Hi Kyle --
I have this stupid brain damage that makes it so I can only get one thing into my mind at once... so I didn't really get that you'd given me a link to use to get the creator.

But now I see that and I'm going to try it.

Thank you, a lot!!!!!

As an aside, this stupid brain damage is from not having enough B12 for a couple years after some intense stress... so, take B12 seriously.

Okay, wow, that's pretty intense.
I made one,and it doesn't show on my page.

that's pretty amazing.

is there some place in particular that one is supposed to put it on a page?

I put it just abovce the megri html

I htought maybe that way it would be picked up instead of the megri text...

thank you a lot!!!!!

I would not rely too much on meta tags. Maybe you can put them in to tell the bots more about the page, and how often to come back. After that, they don't do much.

A few small search engines use meta tags, but I have NEVER got any traffic from them. Instead, focus on building quality content that is update regularly. That will bring the bots to your site, and keep them coming back.

Also, get quality incoming links. For example, you can get a link from my site by going to the following page.

Link Exchange

If you are interested, you can link to one of my other sites, and neorunner.com can link to your site. That way we both get 1 way links. If anyone is interested, please pvt me.
