I read many times about how important page titles are.
So, in my forum, I set it to display topic titles, without preceding them with the baord name.
For example, this topic is titled:

Webmaster-Talk.com - page titles and their importance for ranking

wouldn't it be more keyword efective if the forum name was removed from the title?

It will be but the domain also include the keyword Webmaster and that helps them targeting as webmaster as the keyword.

It would probably be better for SE rankings but it will also create a site name, people may remember the site more.

I agree with kingsimon999, branding is just as important as ranking. I hate getting a ton of search results all with the same title. Then I find myself reading the domains and making a judgement.
