Does anyone know about how long it takes to get a site listed in google? Also, does google have to find other sites linking to you before they spider your site?

Google Robots to scan your site takes some weeks, but to get listed/indexed or pageranked it will be on the next Google update. But I'm not sure when the next update is..

If you have a link to your site in the right place then google robots can come within hours. I'm not too sure on the merit of this, but I have heard that you are likely to get deep crawled and indexed quicker if you have a high PR site pointing at you.

As an example, I added a page recently and saw it indexed and ranking #2 in google (for a keyword with 12000 daily searches according to overture) in under 48 hours.

Ok, so they spider all the time, but they have specified "update" times when they change pageranks and search ranking?

To get a new site into Google it normally takes me about 2 days. But this is normally only the index page. It then takes another 3 - 14 days before Google starts crawling the other pages in my website.
