With the amount of pages in their index, is google search becoming irrelevant. I think so, in some cases Yahoo is more relevant

I think that maybe for people that don't know how to work google. There's many different ways to get results, and I find that it can be better when I look in Google than other search engines. Also Google has now become a verb, it's so popular. "Just Google it." More people seem to use it.

I know how to work it. Sometime I search for something and try several different keywords and sift thruogh the first 4 pages buut come up with nothing. I try MSN or Yahoo and I get what I need forst page.

However I can also search Yahoo and come up with nothing but rubbish and that usually happens more than Google. MSN and Google are probably my top 2 search engines...

I'm sure there are some cases in which Yahoo or MSN provide more relevant results, but overall, I think Google is still the "smartest", most accurate search engine.

I have seen many people say yes but majority of them are webmasters. Very few users actually say this.

I use google as a search engine, its not cluttered up with crap like msn, yahoo etc...........its nice to look at and easy to use, I think this is the feeling most people have and why they use it, plus, as mentioned before " just google it" is some what of an everyday saying now god fobid !

I dislike google though as it doesnt rank any of my keyword searches in the top 10, whereas msn UK ranks me number one, two or three for virtually all of them!

I don't like using Google but that is where I get 80% of my website visitors from. I would prefer Yahoo.

Google is more intersted in increaseing their ad revenue than providing a stable search engine.

That is an interesting thought. Google definately has the power and web presence, but I tend to agree with everyone, it is starting to lose the relevancy to which its fame came from. Maybe it is something as simple as a coding change. I do like yahoo but agree that it is so cluttered with other stuff it makes searching unpleasant.

Who votes for a new search engine company? Who will be the next google?

Yes, it is absolutely right.

Is Google irrelevant? No. If it was, would it be on every webmaster's mind? In this forum? All over the web?

Googles ability to calculate, convert anything you can think of, be a dictionary and a thesaurus, and be a phone book that not only provides a number and address but also a map...I find it the quickest to look up directions or a number for any business in the USA...

Google may and shouldnt be the only search engine you use but I do feel that it is a valuable tool...Especially with its plethora of advanced search engine operators....

I would have to agree Google has changed its focus to keeping the share holders happy e.g. increased focus on pay per click ads and slighlty decreased organic relevance to incourage Adword clicks.

However, Google must relise relevance is the most important aspect of their business, without relevance users will go else where resulting in a loss of revenue.

I take my hat off to MSN's new algo which uses neural networks, this should be a real contender for knocking Google off the top spot. Hopefully it should also change the way links are being used.

I hate the way links have become somthing of value instead of just a method of linking to things the webmaster likes. Most people are so worried about having more links going out than in and in most cases will only provide a link if one is returned. Links are what make the web an actual web, any ranking system that influences the way links are used devalues the web.

As for which SE is the most relevant, relevancy is in the eye of the beholder!

I think it depends on the satisfaction that a net surfer is gettng from a particular SE. for as long as they are getting what they want from their selcted SE, they will stick with it.
