Hy everybody. I'm new on this forum.

To be well accepted, I come with a small gift.

This morning I've just finished to program a small utility that may interrest some of you: it's a free toolbar for IE that enable you to view the PR of all you search results (It's not a demo software, it's just free).
What you get looks like this:

To download it, go to What PR? page

It's a beta version, please be fair! and please repport any problem!

PS: Excuse me if my english is a bit awkward, I'm french native

You don't need to use it, just to have it installed on your computer

How does it query the PR?

If it does it through your servers you will have a log of every SERP and possibly every site we visit.

Ha ha! What an amazing idea! Does your server know your PageRank??
It's nothing as complicated as that. It just makes a request to Google and then presents to you the answer from Google. Using this tool, you'll see that the answer is as quick as for a "normal" request.

Thinck about it: who knows your PageRank?

And try this google search:
http://toolbarqueries.google.com/sea....com/liens.php

Now look between the <RK> and </RK> tags: that is the "live PageRank" of RankSpirit.com

This is an example of the requests that What PR? does when you use it. Its job is just to layout the answer to make it a little more attractive.

http://toolbarqueries.google.com has been made by google to be used by the Google ToolBar. But it can deliver a lot of infos that the Google ToolBar doesn't show. What PR? does, that's all.

So what you're saying is that your toolbar queries the toolbarqueries.google.com cache inside the users pc and displays it in the search results?

Never mind. I see it queries Google itself.

Why is this?

It shows what is called the "live" or "real" PageRank. It is generally assumed that this pagerank is daily uptodate (wich is not the case of the GoogleBar PageRank) and is more representative about what Google takes in account for its ranking.

But all that is just a sum of theories. The only certain thing is that those "special" results come from Google. The presentation page of What PR? says:
"Because these results are perhaps not conseived to be relevant, you must be very carrefull about what you expect from them."

You must considere What PR? as an experimental tool. It doesn't claim to be anything more.

Because the request is not send in a usual form, the result obtained is also a bit different from the "normal" Google results.
- order is sometime different
- the pagerank "live" is added to the results
- may be the results themselves are not exactly the same

Because these results are perhaps not conseived to be relevant, you must be very carrefull about what you expect from them.
I read this on your download page, so knowing the inacuracy of the results, I didn't bother to download it.

If it was acurate, I would reconsider. Great idea though.

Please give me your URL through this forum or by using the mail function of the "about" box. I would like to look at it to see if the results given by What PR? are relevant or not. Until now, I've never got "wrong" values.

Some "features" sets are not compatible with some "DataCenter" sets. Try to choose "No feature" (as punks ) and "toolbarqueries" for the DataCenter and it will work again.

That seems a bit funny to me! Do you thinck that the PR value given by the GoogleBar is accurate?? Most of the time, it's 1 or 2 month old!! I'm absolutely sure that the values returned through What PR? are more accurate than this one! The only problem is that Google will never (by any way) give us the complete and exact datas wich they are using to compute their ranking. They have very good reasons to be so mysterious: they don't want webmasters to be able to "play" too much with this system. Google is made for the users, not for webmasters.
What PR? is an exploration tool wich ables you to discover some unknown regions of this huge and fantastic mystery. The choice to be Christopher Colomb or not is yours, but if not, you risk to miss some treasures!

I just don't take pr that seriously. I take optimization and position in the SERP's seriously.

No problem. You are probably right. PR observation and exploration is essentially a question of curiosity and knowledge. You can drive and never have a look at your speed indicator. With a car, it can be dangerous. With the web it is not: we don't have any speed limitation .
If your target is ONLY to get the more visitors as possible, just get the more backlinks to your site as you can: that is simple and works very well! Eventually, this will increase your PR, but you HAVE not to care about it .

Thanck to Trailerdownload, I discovered that the site:www.myurl.com command returns the Google Toolbar PR of all the pages of the site, while the inurl:www.myurl.com command returns their "PR live". So, the both are available from that system.
