Hmmm... would you put thousands of GB of data transfer through your servers, and spend more on the maintenance of servers and software just to give wifi users a "more secure internet"? Me neither.

To me, it is blatently obvious that Google are getting something out of this in the ways of DATA. Whether it be simply to observe people's internet habits or "internet personalities" I have no doubt that this is some sort of method to find out more about surfers, whether in general or individually.
