Looks like this is all going ahead now!

Get ready to see OpenOffice on the Google website

Quote:
Although the Sun products covered by the agreement are already available — and free to the user — the move will undermine Microsoft’s dominance. Analysts said last night that the arrangement would give Sun prominent exposure on Google’s internet home pages, which have more than 80 million unique users each month.

I think it will be.

I use Open Office at home, coz its free. Sometimes its a bit harder to use than Microsoft Office, but it could only be a good thing with Google jumping on board. A bit more tweaking and it could be a killer, as you said!

Although, I wonder what the benefit would be for Google?

This makes me happy. Microsoft have made far, far more money than they have deserved out of Microsoft Office, largely because people haven't realised that there's a free alternative which in many ways is substantially better (even though in other ways it's not as good).

Java's already had more hype than is strictly healthy though. It needs streamlining, not more promotion.

I just have to say ... GOOGLE STINKS ... and won't last. Mark my words ... they won't remain "King". They may "currently" have the reigns but the ropes are coated with wax and they are already slipping. SLIP SLIP WHOA

I bet lots of people said that about BIll gates and "DOS" and just look where thats ended up.

Open Office is an excellent alternative to MS Office. But then anything that costs NULL compared to £££ is always a winner in my book.

One big difference between google and microsoft is that microsoft didn't have microsoft breathing down their necks when it wasin its infancy. Not that google is in its infancy anymore but microsoft are definately breathing down their necks.
