Hello, I am curious, does PR really matter for your website? Does PR translate into more traffic for your website? what does a pr of 3 means for example? I recently put up a website (www.msmadnetwork.com) and I don't have many sites linking back to me at all but my PR 3, but i have other websites online that have alot more link backs and getting more traffic but their PR's are either 1 or 2. This doesn't make any sense to me, Can anyone explain this ?

Some SEO FAQ's can help you.

What is PR?

PR stands for PageRank. As explained by Google:
Quote:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."

Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.
Summary: PageRank is your page's popularity on the Web. (Notice I didn't say website).

IMHO, PR is really important terminology to get high traffic on your site. PR depends on many factors as
-proper content optimization,
- search engine optimization,
- Meta tags, and link exchange is also one of the important factor
- and age of the site for website too.
I think this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank will help you to get an idea about PR. I feel you should go through forum reviews and good articles on search engine optimization.

Nope

PR depends on one factor and one factor only. Links! and the PR value passed by the page where the link is.

Absolutely nothing to do with anything else.

And it does NOT get more traffic to your site.

So you are saying google is lying about what they use PR for

http://www.google.com/technology/

or are you trying to say that being higher up on a search in google for your particular keyword set, catergory, genere, whatever have you, a BAD thing.

IMO PR is some what relevant, however content is more important then PR and if your page is full of content your PR usually relates to it. In other words dont worry about the PR it will come on its own, worry more about having good content fitting your sites theme.

Check yourself, Do any search and see if the pages returned are always listed in order of PR.

Nope, Provided they are keywords that people are using to find the products or services your site offers. Having rankings that convert is more important than having rankings per se.

So they have some bugs

Content is still the most important and with it you will usually get a decent PR, or so I have noticed

This is true, but the two are not directly connected. It works that way because people will link naturally to sites that interest them or offer something useful.

I work primarility with PPC, but Google uses PR for ranking your webpage, which in turn effects where your results are placed within thier natural listings. To obtain better PR, you have to generate incoming links from relevant sites that have a higher PR. This can be an arduous task, and for some, is just not feasible.

I prefer pay per click because the results are quick, and if you are good, you can effectively manage your position within the search.

Chris is correct about PR. Two years ago, PR was very important, but today G's engineers refer to it as "just one factor out of a hundred." PR's value has diminished significantly. You will find plenty of PR3 sites outranking PR 6 sites.

IMO, the only real value it has is in link exchanges...It tends to give you a little leverage...

Only with the ones who don't know any better.

Most link request sent to me get deleted after a quick look at the site, If one mentions PR the site doesn't even get a look because I know it will from some mis-informed individual who is using some automated software.
