I have been working on www.itwire.com.au, Australian IT News, Telecommunications News for the Asia pasific. for some time.

It has fresh content every day, an active community and plenty of hits.

But it has a google page rank of 3.

My own site www.mailcaster.com.au Melbourne bulk email, mambo and Joomla portal development has a page rank of 4.

I tell you know I don't do much work on my own site. It does not have great content and I never update. it.

So What can I do?

iTWire seems to be stuck??

Thanks in advance

I have gone through your site. IMO, your site needs redesigning and good content optimization with right keywords so as to increase popularity and rating and site will get right visitors. It needs overall SEO and effective designing from expert team. If you are unable to take care of your site, you should outsource this work to the expert teams who provides quality and productive output considering your budget.

If you're talking about PageRank, your first site has 202 backlinks showing
with Google, the second site has 649. That is probably making the difference.

Sorry, your reply is just not clear, were you visiting http://mailcaster.com.au or http://www.itwire.com.au

It was the Australian IT News site that I am trying to optimize.

I was kind of seeking some pointers rather than advice to employ a consultant. Just something I can build on my self.

Thanks any way.

Then why care about the meaningless metric that is the Toolbar PR display

toolbad pr means a lot. your pagerank score is a multiplication factor applied to your optimisation score. to rank in google...you need optimisation, and page rank

Crap

PageRank is simply a function of the number of links and the PR of the page where the link is. The toolbar PR is an inaccurate out of date representation of the real figure.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with "optimisation score" whatever that maybe.

To rank in Google you need optimisation and links with appropriate anchor text. Now THAT is far more important than that green bar will ever be.

I searched for: link:www.itwire.com.au and Google shows 202
.
This can also be done with Yahoo, but I think the syntax is linkdomain:domain.com I always forget.

(Google admits to showing only a sample of backlinks. Other SEs don't say if they are showing 100% or not)

You can find these things by clicking on Advancd Search with any SE.
