And how do you check it?

IBL's = in bound links which is your links' popularity. Shows what websites are linking to yours.

You can check IBL's by entering your domain name here: http://www.web-inspect.com/LinkPopularityFinal.php

Another way to get non-reciprocal IBL's is to add your website to specific directories. I will be adding my content site URL to www.infovilesilencer.com. Dan has an excellent list of directories that are free and do not require reciprocal links. He also has a list of paid to list directories and those that do require recip links. Something for everyone.....

Execute,

In answer to your questions first off, some sites we have worked on, have spent money on marketing like any other business does however, you dont need to spend loads of cash to get a volume of back links. Some sites we have worked on have spent nothing on marketing what so ever and have high Page Rank.

You must remember that Google associates your site with "Anchor text" back links. Remember the "miserable failure example" and the fact that Google associates the top result with George Bush!. In other words the anchor text you use in your links will associate your site with those keywords.

Regarding your signiture you should break it up and use the anchor text words people will search on to find you and also anchor text link to internal pages of your site. This way you will get deep links to boot. So to clarify your sig text link is to long because no one will type all of that into a search engine to find you but it will at least act as one back link!

To demonstrate how to use back links effectively the sig im using on this post provides backlinks to the index page of one site we work on that we want the page associated with and provides internal links to pages that we want associated with those keywords.

So to conclude, mix anchor text back links into your posts, blogs, articles etc that you want your site associated with and to different pages on your site to ensure search engines associate those pages with those keywords.

Hope this post helps clear a couple of your points up

Kind Regards

Rich

Bomba,

Very interesting post (yours 15)

Have to say i have never seen anyone give a guess at the number of back links required to go up a level - and yes it does make your head hurt trying to work using your formula!!

Just to clarify, assuming that the page has few back links on it so the value is not diluted so much are you saying that to get to a PR7 on a site you would need:-
Either 555 PR5 backlinks OR 101 PR6 backlinks OR 18 PR7 backlinks to reach it? Or alternatively a mxiture of higher volumes of the lower pages?.

In closing i have to give you credit for attempting to work this one out, (even if your answers wrong) having worked on a good volume of sites i havent got a scooby how to even attempt a formula to calculate Page Rank. Perhaps you should apply for a job at Google!

It's not *my* formula. I am not a math wizard.

Correct.

Rich
haha, thanks.

Well, now that I'm a hero, I should confess. The number I gave were derived
from someone else's work. I am only standing on his shoulders.

I think everyone should know about the PR calcuation chart that Bob Wakfer
made in one of his articles. I got his permission to reprint it on my site.
http://megalinkexchange.com/google/h...is_enough.html

There is a link there to his full article.

You can actually download the chart in excel format from his page and
change the cell which holds the number of outbound links. You'll see all
other values change dramtically. It's mind blowing if you're into PR.
I've spent hours just doing that

later,
Bompa

I know that. But as I said it is not in my control. My web host has put this setting in their INI files. I have a fix where it temporarily alters the INI settings using PHP but the TransID setting still sometimes appears. So right now Googlebot (according to my logs) is recording both PHPSESSID links and the ones without it. So it is not a good fix. I cannot contact my host as their phone is dead and there is no cancel button, and they dont reply to emails... So i'm screwed really, i have no idea what to do...

By the sound of it looking for a new host would be a good move.

PR is based on links.
If you ever watch the world of blogs, you can go from a PR0 to a PR7 in one PR update. This happened on a couple of blogs I've visited.
If you offer a tool or resource that people can use, it is a lot easier to get links and build PR.
