Hey I started a site about 4 months ago from now and in the begining
all was going swell with a nice pr of 4. Then suddenly it plumited one
day to 0. I do not know the cause of it but I believe it is what some
people call the sandbox. Please can anyone confirm I am still in the
sandbox? What do I need to do to get out its been about 2 months since
I landed.

I have made links from other websites and get spidered just about every
day.
My website is www.surfaceripple.com.


I made a domain names on each host until
finally I settled on a reliable host which now has all 3.
www.surfaceripple.com is my main address but I dont want my listings
from the address to be affected by my other addresses. What do you
suggest? Should I make a seperate page which says: 'weve moved to
www.surfaceripple.com' and redirect .co.uk and .net to that?
Or just delete the domains all together?

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
Also anyone know how to contact google about your site listings?

please help i really want to restore my pr. What should i do with my other domains do i link them to another folder on my site with a link to www.surfaceripple.com and a nofollow meta for google? Or do I do the same but host on a different server? Or do I just have to disable the domains to preserve my main one?

what the replies have said is what will everyone say.

here are my comments:

chances are better than not that you got a duplicate content penalty from google for having all those domains with the same content. the first thing to do is pull of those domains down completely and pick one. let the other domains 404, it does not matter, just get all the content off of them.

i understand what you are trying to do but it is a bit more complex than that. i believe the current way google looks at sites is by the "c block" of the ip. which pretty much means if you want to do this, you are going to have to get seperate hosts for each domain, or go to a host large enough to be able to provide you this service. and even after that, you will have to change probably no less that 60% of the page content to avoid ANY chance of google getting you again for duplicate content. i have read articles about people successfully doing this... they say it takes a lot of money (for different hosts), and tripples their development time because you would be effectively managing 3 seperate sites.

KEEP IN MIND: if you continue to keep using any of those domains, you could be in trouble for a while because of the duplicate content penalty - if that happened to me, i would probably pick a new domain all together and start over.

btw... praveen is 1000% correct. pretty much everything everyone said in that googlegroups article was acurate, and **** good advice. usually advice you do not get for free.

I would like to point out that the google groups "experts" have no special knowledge about the inner workings of the SE and because you have to pay for their answers does not make it better advice than is given here.

There is no penalty for duplicate content. it is simply filtered out and the content from what is regarded by the SEs as the most important site shown, and each one may pick a different site. Yahoo tend to be more severe if they decide it's deliberate though and it certainly could earn a penalty on one of the sites.

Having two sites with the same content is not spam per se, though having two identical sites and expecting both to rank is. It's more about the intent rather than the act.

Regardless of the "doom and gloom" merchants, it is very difficult to get a site actually banned (I have tried! (including IP and UA cloaking)) and if you do manage it you will know exactly why and how it happened.
what you are seeing is simply the aging delay (aka "sandbox") on the new domain. If you apply a server side 302 redirect from the .net site to the .com you should be able to keep your traffic and rankings until the .com comes out of the delay, then switch this to a 301 redirect and the link pop and value that goes with that will be transfered over (It takes around 12 - 15 weeks for this to happen).
Where possible start to get the backlinks changed to the new location, but don't worry about it where you can't because the redirect will take care of it.

have been readin about and seems like 302 aint a good idea either. If I insert this into my htaccess then do i keep the .net and .co.uk forwarding to .com

The 302 is only a bad idea under certain circumstance and when used on a site NOT in your direct control. I have tried to "hijack" one of my own sites as a test and didn't manage it at all.

yep, forward any aliased hostnames to the hostname you want to use as the main one not forgetting to 301 the hostname to www.hostname if your are using the www. sub

Hey Andy. The code you have looks right. I think you can also use R=301 intead of permanent.

Don't worry about the update though. The update is just for the green bars we all see. Google is constantly updating your real PR all the time. It only updates for all of us every so often.

Google is still in the midst of an update, anything could be happening as the DCs are still synching up and probably will be for another few weeks.

It's not necessarily the case that high PR = high ranking (if that's what you mean by results).

Maybe your competition has better optimisation.

Andy rest assured it's not just you. It really just is the Google update. This seems like a pretty big one and I've seen things bouncing around on a lot of sites.

Keep in mind that this isn't affecting your search results and the PR of your site has nothing to do with where your site will come up in those results. I know it can be frustrating, but try to be patient.
