Well, I looked at a PR predictor today for usfkclassifieds.com and it has me going from a PR 3 to a PR 5! I am happy because I simply tried some basic SEO techniques over the past few months. Where did I get the techniques from? I bought a great book (still reading) and read through a few forums! Here are some of the basic techniques I used.
1. Remove all of the extra meta tags! All you need is the title, description and keywords. The rest are a waste of time. For instance, telling the spiders when to revisit? Spiders will revisit when they feel like it. They will not revisit because you tell them to!
2. Stick to 1-2 key word phrases. Forget about key words (single words) and stick to key word phrases that you expect visitors to find your site.
3. Put your key word phrases in the front of your description in your title, description and key words.
4. Keep your keywords to a minimum!
5. Get sites linking in! I now have some 346 sites linking in per Google. I have over 1,000 per MSN. It took time, but it is a growing process.
6. Have a link to your index.html page on every single page of your webpage. Place it on your navigation bar, bottom and top of every page.
7. Create information websites that link to your page. I have a classifieds for people living in Korea. I build a military base guide and linked to my classifieds. I got a lot of traffic and I feel this helped the PR.
8. Don't use frames or javascript!
9. Post on Blogs that have the same theme as you. Make sure you can add your domain! Same goes true for guest books and forums.
Here is what I will be doing to improve on this PR.
1. I will be adding a site map to my site and using the Google Site map feature.
2. Building more doorway pages full of excellent content that will point back to my index.html page.
3. Adding more military guides that will point to my index page
4. Bolding my keyword phrases trough out the site
5. Keeping my key word density to 5%
6. Adding a RSS feed
And a few other trade secrets! I hope this helps.
Mike
