I recently traded a few links and I see that other webmaster have emailed me the URL where I can find my link on their site a few days ago.... so how long does it take for SE's to pick up my backlink?

Well its different for each search engine... google takes months before it shows up, yahoo is faster aswell as msn.

Depends on the site where the link is and how often the search engine reindex that site.

Even if it picks up it will not show with the link command in google as google does not show all the backlinks.

What SE? MSN is the fastest among the Yahoo and Google. Google will take after they update their backlinks.

they pick up immedtiatly, but they might not show them immediatly when you search with link:
