Hello all. I am getting very down over this. I know you guys have been asked this question so many times before, but I really want everyones input. Last December I had an idea for a dads website where only dads would go to share their stories of fatherhood, good or bad. A place to talk about their familes and share stories. A place just for dads to go to "hang out". I was and am still very excited about it, but it just seems that I can't find users. I have searched the net trying to find "competitors" and I do find several sites for dads for "specific" reasons, like stay at home dads and the like. I am listed on the search engines but not by keywords. I do know that google can take anywhere from 6 to 8 mths to get my site listed.

I guess what I am asking you guys is this. What am I doing wrong? This is my very first attempt at making and running a website. I am very happy and still excited about the idea and concept of my "dad" site. Can you guys check on the main page and tell me if my keywords are wrong, are their too many?

Please, anything that you guys can come up with will help me alot. I sincerely thank you in advance..

The site is www.Daddyplace.com

Thanks again.. I am very excited and am waiting on your responces.

Keith

Hey Keith and welcome. I don't think it's so much that you're doing anything wrong. There are always ways to improve, but in a lot of cases it just takes time. I think it's a great idea by the way.

Looking at your site I see you already have 50 members. I think that's pretty good. If you keep adding 25 memebers a month you'll have a thriving community before too long. When marketing the site don't just think in terms of online. Think of all the traditional offline marketing you can do as well. And never pass up a chance (when approptiate) to mention your site to a fellow dad. Even better hand them a business card with the website address on it.

I do have a few suggestions for the site. It looks good, but it would be better not to use frames in the code. Search engines can have problems with framed sites and it also confuses bookmarking the main site. It's not to hard to change a framed site to a table based layout or if you're up for it you can use css positioning to layout the site.

I also notice that when you click on forum, arcade, and blog a new window opens. It might be a good idea to have them all open in the same window with navigation on them to get them back to the main site. If you get them all to look more similar it would be a good idea. Even just being more consistent in the colors would ensure visitors to your site would know they're still on your site and haven't gone to another site.

You may also want to look into optimizing your site for your keywords. The forums here which you've already found are a good place to start reading. And there are plenty of links in the threads to direct you to other valuable sources. It's not rocket science, but it can take some time so hang in there.

I think you're off to a good start, a better start than you think. Just keep getting the word out online and offline.

Your site is in frames with no way for the SE crawlers to get to main content so you have no chance with the SEs without a lot of work.
