For some reason when I search Google for "SearchBliss", the title of SearchBliss is just "SearchBliss"??? The actual title is "SearchBliss: Web Tools - Free Webmaster Services, SEO Tools..."

I get the full title. Google is a bit erratic at the moment.

Google does not always use your title. They sometimes create their own from your apge or use parts of your title.

I thought they always used the title and just varied the description.

Yes, I see that Chris, but they are not using the DMOZ description, just the title. It used to be the opposite (DMOZ description, real title).

They will use all kinds of mixes of the title and text snippet
The general pattern is to make the snippet match the search phrase.

if you run a site:search you see it becomes both DMOZ title and description. Change the query to include a keyword and it becomes the DMOZ description for the snippet and the title from the page.

It's one compelling argument for not having a DMOZ listing

If you're not listed in the DMOZ then how can Google be pulling a description from the DMOZ? I'm not sure where they're getting it from, but I would think the only way they could be pulling it from the DMOZ is you are actually listed there and there's some information for them to get. They must be gettng it from somewhere else.

You could try adding a meta description to the page. They won't always use that, but they will sometimes.

That makes sense mad_willsy. I hadn't realized the domain was in DMOZ at one point. I see the site now in the Google directory which would have come from the DMOZ at some point. How recently did you take over the site? Google doesn't seem to update their directory all that often, but the next time they do I would imagine the site won't be there any more since it's no longer DMOZ.

I wouldn't wait on the DMOZ to make the change. I think for now the best thing you can do is add your own description to the site with a meta description tag. At least that way you have a better chance of getting a description relating to your site.

My guess though is the old description of the previous site will get removed in time.

About 6 months ago now. It was my dads and he got bored. I asked if I could use it and he agreed as he was gonna park it anyway because hufc lottery are after the domain.

Well I'm pretty sure Google has updated the directory in the last 6 months though I'm not really sure whether they do it all at once of just certain sections at a time.

With DMOZ all you can do is wait. You could always submit the site again with the new description. It could be awhile before they review your site, but it seemed like a small category so they might get to it sooner.

Definitely add your own meta description though. It will get picked up and used by Google for some searches.

it maybe that the editor who restructured the category moved the entry to the correct cat and it is waiting for the change to be approved, or of course it may have been deleted.

Safest way is to follow vangogh's advice and write your own meta description. If you don't have one if can't be used in the SERP

I think at this time google is cleaning its index and their datacenter is showing some old data. I see many of the baned sites banned in index with supplimental result and also at the same time, sub blog spam is altogether elimiated for te good.

That's may old but good web page indexed by google, so google machine still love that web page. If you would like to replace it, you should ask google engineneer manualy.
