Google Link Checker Question

Can somebody please enlighten me about the Google link checker?

I have been typing in this code to see how many websites are still linking mine:

link:www.singlemovielovers.co.uk

Although the search results only bring up one site which is still linking to mine, my web stats tell me that there are other sites that are still linking to mine. So why does the Google link checker only tell me that just one site is still linking?

Is this the only way I can find out how many sites are still linking to mine, or is there another function I could use? I need to know if all those other sites are still linking, because if they aren't, I can remove them.

I have been told, too, that to keep sites which are no longer linking to yours is bad for your search engine ratings. Is this true?

Thanks,
Alan

because the link: command has never worked in the way most people like to assume and has been rendered less useful with each update at Google.

It currently only shows a random selection of links

Cheers. Thanks for telling me. I won't be using that again.

So where can I find a good link checker then? It is an absolute pain having to check every now and then to see if all the sites are still displaying my links!

The truth is it's not all that important to know how many you have in the sense that regardless of whether you have 10 backlinks or 1000 you still should be looking for more. Knowing how many you have shouldn't really change what you're going to with your link building campaign.

You won't really ever find a 100% accurate count anywhere, but Yahoo will most likely give you the best count at the moment. It's the same link: command as at Google except you need to include the http:// in the url.

why bother?
If you can't trust the site you shouldn't be linking to them anyway.
