Back links to Google means NOT just back links. However, it is ok with yahoo and MSN. Only the meaningful links will consider as back links in Google. Meaningful links means,
Link should come from higher PR.
Content of the page linking to you must relate to your site.
You should not link back to the page linking to you (Link Exchange)
Googlebot is intelligent enough to distinguish exchanged links.
Avoid link Exchanges as much as possible.
The link value of a signature is relatively less that value of a review.

So try to build quality back links.

www.google.com is PR10. It has a link from www.w3.org/XML/ (PR9). Does that mean that this link isn't considered a backlink?

One tip, find your competing site that ranks in top 3 on google. And see where the links are coming from, for each of them. There could be some good forums, directories where they are listed or promoted. Follow the leader and do somethign extra

Hi Jetbrains

Yes, your PR will improve with links.

But you don't just want any old links but relevant and long-term ones.

To do that you need quality content that people will see linking to as a good idea, and also it allows you to link only with high ranking sites.

Obviously, to do that, you have to be in the SEs. It's not worth trying to out-guess them. They are ahead or just behind and approaching fast any individual who tries to get round them. Simply, submit regularly but not so they think you're trying to spam.

there is no need to submit sites to search engines rudradatta

All the big search engines crawl websites now, so submitting is a waste of time

Directory submissions of course are required.

WebProfit is right. There's no need at all to submit to search engines. A few links on sites that get spidered and the search engines will find you. A link in your forum signature here will be enough.

Directory submission is fine.
Search engine submission is pointless.

True, but it will take many pr1 links to get a pr5 ranking.
And a single pr6 link would in most cases give your page pr5

Incoming links is what it's all about. Once you have 'em your site will get a decent PR. Just be sure you start with sites already ranked well in Google.

I suggest you start by searching Google using the same search term your site is trying to get highly ranked for and see what sites are top 30. Test if any of these sites will do reciprocal text links with you - if so - "kazow" you are on your way to a PR rating my friend.
