Hello, I was told a couple years ago, that Google did not pick up banners with anchors in them. ie) only send out a banner for Traffic, not a backlink. Now, looking at the anchor text,

<a href="../homepage.html"><img src="images/f36.jpg" width="210" height="33" border="0"></a>

It looks to me that Google would indeed index this. Can anyone tell me anything about this.

If Google does indeed register the link in the banner, then can someone tell me how to create a link to a second site that does not get indexed. This is on the link page so I prefer not to use flash or anything like that to spook away potential link backs.

It will be indexed perfectly well, what is needed for an image link is alt attribute text (alt="some text here").

Hiding links is NOT a good idea!! If you want the link not to be seen/indexed by SEs for whatever reason they have no place on your site.

I agree with Chris, bad idea.

<img src="images/f36.jpg" width="210" height="33" border="0"> as far as I see there is no anchor text in the link and it will serve as a backlink but without any benefit to the actual keyphrase you are targeting.
