How does Pagerank work? Ok If someone's home page is ranked 5 or 6 but the link page is ranked 0 or 1. Is it worth swaping links?
Should you only swap links with people who have only link pages page ranked 3,4,5. I'm confused

This is just me, but I'd swap links (if my site has if the site is at least semi-related (1) to help another person just starting out, and (2) someday, their page rank may get to be a 7 while you're still at 5.

It may not be beneficial to me at first, but the possibility that it can always produce rewards in the long run is always there.

Again, that's just me, though.

It's the link page that counts.

What PR value to require is strictly up to you. No link to you will hurt you and as prissed said, the PR could go way up in the future.

Personally, I have found getting links to be time consuming, so for right now, I will link with a low PR if they come to me, but when I go searching for links, I want only PR4+. But again, this is mostly because my site needs a big boost quickly.

By the way, I am developing software that will assist the webmaster in keeping track of his/her link building efforts. It does not do the job for you, it helps you keep track of what you've done. It's sort of like a roll-a-dex for links. When this is done, I'll be setting up a web site where I'll be giving away the first 100 copies. hmm well actually in this situation as a new site you want to hoard your PR as much as possible so you can build your ranking. A common mistake is to swap as many links as possible. As far as Google is/was concerned a recipricol link is not as vauable in PR as a one way link. This being that a one way link appears as an unbiased vote for a site for a keyword.

Another thing to factor in is if a site has say a PR 4 and 20 links the PR vote will be signifigantly lower than a PR 4 with only 2 outbound links.

So basically less links is a better PR vote.

And in conclusion if you swap out too many links then your PR value is reduced and you are subject to PR leak. Meaning if you have say a PR 3 now and link out to too many people then you could goto a PR 2 in the next update.

I don't think there's any such thing as 'hoarding' one's PR. PR is the importance of a page and it comes from links. With no links, a page would remain PR0 indefinitely.

Not true sir. The number of outgoing links does not affect the PR of a page. It only affects the strength of the vote to the remote page.

Again, that's just not true. Outgoing links do not affect the PR of the page. Unless there is an extreme number outgoing and Google penalizes the page, but Google themselves say that 100 outgoing links is a reasonable number.

With all due respect, you need to double check your facts before you advise others. We all should do this.

First off, web sites do not stay at a Google pagerank of 0 indefinitely. Google ends up giving a web site at least a pagerank of 1 after that site has been indexed in Google for over 1 month.

A web site needs inbound links and needs to try to reduce on outbound links as much as possible to keep the Google pr within its' own web site.

Google themselves do not say that 100 outbound links is a reasonable number because they have stated that they will not count any outbound links on a page if there are 100 or more out outbound links.
