I think I am going mad!

I use the google sitemaps query stats tool and it says I am ranked 63 for the search term 'karting' my site being www.karting1.co.uk

but when I go to look at the results for the search term, I am not there.

is it actually there and I am blind?

Yes I can see you - 67th when I looked.

I have had similar experiences myself though.

I believe it depends what Google databse you connect to. They run different versions around the world, all of which are being upated regularly so google.com will give you different results to google.co.uk.

Also I have heard that the .com runs off several databases which will give varying results - I can't confirm this but it would explain why positions vary.

Different datacenters can and usually do produce different results.

There are multiple servers in the same datacenter, so even if you hit the same datacenter more than once, you may be hitting a different server with slightly different information to sort and draw results from.

Keep in mind that Google only shows the highest position attained for a keyword in the Sitemaps interface, not necessarily the current position of the current DC you're on.

At any rate, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're even at #67 somewhere or #63, at least you're in range. Just keep doing whatever it is you're doing and don't try to spike the mixture.
