Google is no longer number one...?

A search for 'search engine' on Google is currently throwing up AltaVista 1st, Lycos 2nd, Yahoo! 3rd and Google itself in a lowly 4th position!

A fairly sound demonstration that the Florida update has been far from successful methinks...

Amusing, highly amusing.

If google have inadvertantly penalised themselves...

But then again, if you're on Google searching for Search Engine, you need your head examining...

I am sure if google wanted to they could give themself first position on every keyword! This would destroy there results but make them a ton of money for about a week

Google already gave themself a pr of 11. I am sure they are aware of the fact that they are not first but dont care. Because if you are using a search engine that grabs google results then why would you want to switch to google? Is it because of there ad's on the side of there website, or the lack of tools and mail. I dont think putting themself in first would help because If you see them in 3rd you are already using there results.

Sometimes, though.. people get flamed for saying that their service is the best on their own service - for instance if Google put Google as number one, they would maybe have a few (sad) people calling them up or sending emails to them complaining..

Just my 10pence.. maybe they edit their 'search engine' search terms manually.. maybe I'll ask them.

You can ask them, but i'll bet they don't tell you...

A PR of 11? Are you sure? I thought PR was on a scale 1-10? hmm...*looks flumoxed*...can someone check that on the Google Toolbar? (I don't have it installed as it causes problems with Windows 2k Pro)

The Toolbar only shows PageRank on a scale of 0 – 10 but is actually calculated using a complex logarithmic scale (you could be a 5.45 but it will show you as a 5...

When you mouse over Google.com's PR it shows 10/10 although is possible they have a higher number than that and they just don't show it.
