I've had the following three questions on my mind for a while:

1. How often does google update PRs?
2. Does a static directory inclusion of my site count as a backlink?
3. Does the "link:" operator (to check the backlinks of a site) have a seperate index? I ask because I have a few links to my site now but this doesn't show up in google.

Will appreciate comments.

1. about every 3/4 months (not long had one)
2. yes unless the nofallow tag has been used
3. links are conted up with the pr update, so in away yes but google dont cont them all

Taylor, can you pls throw some light on what a nofallow tag is??

nofollow is an attribute you can use on links to instruct google to not follow or use that text link in thier ranking
You use it like this

<a href="http://www.domain.com" rel="nofollow">Anchor text</a>

It's usually used where people can post links, Like in blog replies.

1. Internally, all the time. Externally, whenever it feels like (usually every 3-4 months). Don't obsess over this, though...it's really not as much of a factor as people make it out to be.

2. Already answered...as long as nofollow isn't employed, it counts.

3. No. The link: operator only shows a fraction (which seems to vary) of the backlinks Google actually has for your site. If you want a better indicator, sometimes typing "domain.com" (including quotes) will give you that.

Mind you, you'll never get the whole picture.

3 or 4 months is the PR update (may be)

same question . my god . only google and god know when pr will be updated but usually 3 months

Actually Google updates every 90 days. The last update was July 15th.

They don't update toolbar PR every 90 days.
Internally it's constanly, toolbar is whever they feel like it.

Google Backlink/PR Update Record

page rank used to be a multiplication factor - is this still the case? hoping so...

a lot of the time Google only shows backlinks to your site that have achieved a certain page rank, as it views those as being important enough to tell you about. internally however it may hold a shed load more links to you.

PR is a factor, though I'm sure it's not of the multiplication variety

The link: command seems to show a random selection of backlinks for me. The results don't seem related to PR.

why is so concerned over PR ??? I think it really proves nothing over the content of the page.. Many bad websites have very good PR..

As you have rightly said, PR is not a measure of a page's content (though content plays some decision-making role in backlink considerations). It is a measure of page popularity. But is gaining knowledge harmful?

To discount PR just because "bad websites" have it, too, is shortsightedness May be there are still some loopholes to be fixed. But if google is gathering PR data, it perhaps is not without a reason. It may, someday, matter in some evident way.

It's one of the least important factors in a list of over 200 factors. And that's real PR, Toolbar PR is entirely useless.

How do we know the date Google update our site PR?

nobody knows the date. It will happen when it happens and when it does it will make no difference to anything.
