Never. Never ever ever ever EEEEEEEEEEEEVER submit to SEs. Did I mention that you should never submit to SEs? Nah. I'll mention it again. Never submit to SEs.

SEs spider and index links based on other quality inbound links, as chrishirst alluded to. There's a really good list over at Search Engine Friendly Directory Lists & Link Building Resources - Directory Critic that you can lose to get you started. Use the big ones first (DMOZ, etc.)

Your forum sig will help you in this regard as well.

You can tell google to come visit all you want, trouble is it doesnt listen to you. It comes when it finds its way to you.

List your site in forums, directories, link swap and google will come.

Submit it only once.

The really important part is that you get some links to your site (with a good anchor text) in relevant sites <<-- Thats the important part.
