Well first page rank is not nearly as important as you might think. It used to be much more important, but because it was easy to manipulate is not given as much weight in the Google algorithm.

I'd certainly rather have a higher PR than a lower PR, but page rank is not what causes pages to be ranked higher in search results. However what will help get your pages to rank well also happens to help raise your page rank.

Page Rank is a measure of how many other sites and pages are linking to your site. It's also a measure of the page rank of those other web pages. Essentially the higher the page rank of a page linking to yours the more power it has to raise the PR of your page.

While page rank itself isn't so important getting quality backlinks is. So do try to get other sites to link to yours. But don't worry so much about Page Rank.

Here's an article explaining how Page Rank is calculated. It's useful in understand the calculation, but the article was written when PR was much more important than it is today.

Get more quality links coz google loves thats. PR is actualy not important for me coz it not help SERPs, but the credits of having a good PR will help for some link building strategy.

To increase the PR, you need links from contents page and also from relevant site.
Try to get more and more content link(relevant site).

Bottom line...to get a higher pagerank you need to acquire more links. However a hgher pagerank does not mean better rankings in the SERP's. They are connected in the sense that if you do obtain "relevant" backlinks relating to your targeted terms, then your PR will increase as well as your rankings for those terms. If you acquire non relevant links your PR can still go up, but it may not help out your rankings....its about relevant links...Quality not so much quantity.
