ADVICED WANTED ON PAGE INDEXING (GOOGLE):

My websites are not being indexed in Google!! They used to be indexed but now only the hompage is being index. Below is what I've done:

1) Build the websites (4 sites) in Frontpage (.htm files): After some time these pages got indexed and we got PR 3.

2) I changed design and updated the websites in Dreamweaver (I didn't realize that automatically the pages were saved as .html files): However, fairly quicky all the pages were indexed (as html)

3) Now, however, Google are not indexing any of the new pages anymore, except the homepages. Also it has started to index a few of the old (.htm) pages, that does not exist anymore.

4) I created a Google Sitemap for each of the 4 pages to help Google index my pages. Google reported no errors in the sitemap. We have now not been index for more than 2 weeks.

Therefore, ADVICE IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!
  • Anyone knows what I can do?
  • How long time does it take for Google to add pages according to Sitemap?
  • Should we resubmit to Google?
  • Do we need robot txt file on the server -would it help?
  • Some way to 'remove' the old pages (.htm) from Google memory?

Redirect (301) the "old" pages

No idea. Google sitemap is NOT a panacea for all ills.
It will depend on your site navigation. If it's crawlable and there are enough external links anywhere from a month to 6 months

1. It happened with my website before.

Your website probably in the "sandbox" - time when google deside and wait to ban your website or not.

What should you do.... Firstly, Create more backlinks for your internal , sub-domain pages. Don't create any PR0 - PR1 backlinks for your homepage (Google can decide that you build cheap backlinks and spam their system trying to get nice keyword positions). Create only PR4 and more links for your homepage and other pages.

Thanks for the advice!

This is probably a stupid question but how do I redirect (301) the old pages?

NB: They do not exist anymore.

Depends on your server technology and what access you have to the server.

Apache; .htaccess and the 404 error page

IIS; 404 error page

if your pages had been classic asp, (i'm assuming you're on windows hosting) i'd have recommended you to add the following code to the old pages:

<%@ Language=VBScript %>
<%
Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently" Response.AddHeader "Location", " http://www.new-url.com"
>

The above code wouldve redirected your old pages to the new ones. But since they're not, just create a 404 page on your site and give google some time, like a few months to display the updated site structure.
