Hi,
I have taken a break from SEO for the past few months and I am now returning with a new network of websites to start a long term optimisation project.
In my new campaign I will be focusing completely on gaining 1 way links from related sites.
The problem is that 1 way links are extremely labour intensive to generate (especially as the competition on my targetted keywords is imense). By researching my main competitors linking structures I have seen that the large bulk of their links come from reciprocal links directories but the link is not recripocated on the domain that is ranking highly in SERPS.
The 2 obvious reasons for this i would assume would be:
1) The webmaster has started a reciprocal link exchange program and then deleted all outgoing links at a later date.
2) they are using a "Triangle" or "3 Way Linking Scheme". The way this is most commonly done is by mass mailing sites telling them that they have already been listed in a directory and to keep the link pointing at their site they have to put a link to another domain (the one being optimised) on their website.
I am about to start work on a tool for the detection of such linking networks so I can better understand how my competitors create these linking structures. I would like to get feedback from the WT community as to your experinces with these 3 way link exchanges.
My opinion that is at this point based on speculation and my initial research is that the 3 way link program on its own isnt enough and extra steps would have to be taken to make it a valid optimisation tactic. However I know that a lot of people are persuing this method and would really like to get feedback from someone who has committed efforts to this.
Many thanks in advance for you comments.
