I have a link exchange section and would like to know if lower PR sites whom I do a link exchange with actually are detremental to my own PR. I.E if I do a link echange with a PR0 site and I am a PR5 site will this have any effects on my over all PR?

If they are related to the content base its worth or else even a high PR is not worth exchanging.

It's not worth exchanging based on PR. A section of link exchanges probably isn't going to help much in general. It's not about the PR though. Unless all the sites you're linking to are trusted sites related to your topic they not only won't help, but can possibly hurt.

When getting links you really want to look for sites that are related to yours and ideally have those sites be sites that are trusted in the eyes of the search engines.

I do only link with golf related sites.

I was just wondering if the PR had any weight in the overall plan of things. Sounds like it does not.

Well I don't want to say it has no weight. All other things being equal I'd probably prefer the link from the higher PR page, but all other things are seldom equal. Pagerank is part of the equation, but it's not as important as it once was. Better to think in terms of trust and relevance than PR.

yah, still worth it specialy if that link related on you, as they say 1 quality links are better than 100 or more trash links. G loves quality links.

As long as they are not a spam site you should be good. Some sites are indexed with a PR of 0, and others have a PR of 0 because they are banned from google. If you are linked to a banned site... it will hurt your PR. So be careful in that sense

With that in mind how would I know if a site was banned by google?

do a search for the domain name, If it's old and not indexed it's possibly banned.

If you get links from a high PR site that is related by topic to your site, and the link is not part of page that contains hundreds of other links, and the anchor text of the link is your primary keyword, then it's worth having. Otherwise, it's pretty much a waste of time.

If their site is realted and quality then it wont but if it is of bad quality then linking to them can get you penalized.
