Write tons of content, submit sitemaps to google and yahoo, get as many backlinks as you can then write more original content - after 6 months you will start listing better and gaining visitors.

You can also buy traffic with adwords. If you are a blog submit to carnivals and read and backlink to other appropriate blogs.

It all depends upon what site you have and what you want ot achieve.

Get a link printed in a old media magazine or newspaper.

Submit articles to relevant websites

maybe I should write a post on my blog...... I am sure that would generate more traffic for me.

It's all about the quality of your content. If you have a site that people think is awesome you will be fighting off visitors and begging people to stop linking to you (maybe not, but you know what i mean).

yeah I agree with mr conan, write tons of content.. with related and quality contents.. you will got a high ranking on google.

Doesn't even need to be optimised just write useful / interesting stuff.

You should see my websites search logs - you could never guess 95% of the search terms.

I have over 600 pages now and I get all sorts of weird hits - just wait till I have 2000 pages.

For an article site you need to get lots of backlinks and hope that others link to the articles in your site. Digg may also be another way of receiving some traffic.

I have to disagree with you completely, there are some very amateur, ugly designs that generate massive traffic.

Look is not important, neither is fast loading times (YouTube takes minutes to d/l each page fully).

Content - interesting and unique.

The best way to increase traffic is with your content as most websites are content driven websites that is if content is not good the traffic will drop

Create good content and promote it

I didnt tell that Beautiful designs only can generate traffic but it will help bring the traffic

The meaning in which i explained is : So that if a visitor comes to our website and he look our website it is fully densed with contents without any proper designs then he will not get anyu impression on our website so the best way to design your site professionally and make your content fresh and more valuable the visitors to the website will come automatically.......
