When I google my site name, I get some 25,000 hits. However, when I google link: with my site address, I only get 160 hits. Why is that? Does it effect my page rank, being that google is link-oriented? If so, what can I do?

Links do affect your page rank. ALl you can do is get more links pointing to you with your your target title.

When you google your site name you get all the instances/webpages where your url is present - not neccesarily a hyperlink - but even as plain text.

However, when I google link: with my site address, I only get 160 hits. Why is that?

While link: command gives you the backlinks to your homepage and hence lower number of links i.e results displayed.

xpertcoder, thanks a lot. Yet I still think the difference is too big - do you mean that the some 24,500 pages who do not show up when I search link: but do when search by name ALL have my site in text format rather then link? When I search mysite.COM I still get the 25,000 hits!
Plus, can anyone answer my pagerank question: Does this difference (between the name hits and the link hits) affect the pagerank, and if so, how?

Ignore the difference it means absolutely nothing.
Googles link: command has never worked as everyone thinks it should work and now it only shows a very small random selection of links.

NO it doesn't affect the useless green bar display.
