Just thought I'd share my story....
I started my site 6 months ago, and was nowhere to be found in Google until today. Within a month, I was able to top Yahoo and MSN with strong on-page optimization, but frustrated with Google, I began to focus more on back-links, and less on things such as keyword density. Since I changed my tune, I currently rank on the first page for Google and MSN, but have dropped off the face of the earth in Yahoo. The most significant on-page change was a lowering of keyword density, which leads me to believe that Yahoo prioritizes this more than MSN and Google. I also started a blog, and I believe the fresh and unique content contributed to the Google change as well. It could be just a glitch, and I could end up ranking much lower eventually, but hopefully that's not the case. Personally, I believe I was sanboxed for a 6 month period, as my site has been up for exactly 6 months.
