I work for Appliance Parts Specialists, it is a family owned business. I am the website designer. I designed 3 websites for my company:
the main one:
4appliancerepairparts.com
the backup one (different host):
4appliancerepairparts.net
and the SEO one:
appliancezone.net
I'm trying to get ranked up in the search engines with appliancezone.net but I'm having trouble understanding how my competitor is beating everyone.
The competitor is repairclinic.com , their the largest out there, so far no one can even come close to beating them in sales. They've mastered the search engines when it comes to using the word appliance parts. It's not the
<meta tags> their not spamming there pages like crazy, I just don't get it.
The #2 competitor (in the search engines) is partselect.com and all they do is just spam the words appliance parts throughout their whole website.
But repairclinic.com still beats them. And that is where I get completely lost??????????? One thing I noticed was the keywords at the bottom of repairclinic.com home page are outside the <html> tags.
Is there something I'm missing? Or are they one of the very few that totally understands how the search engines work.

I think I can tell you why...
repair clinic has in excess of 30,000 links to their website
partselect has in excess of 9,000
And your main site appliance repiar parts has 100 links to your site.
The big daddy also has several thousand more pages on their site than you have, so build a few thousand pages and get at least 30,000 other appliance type websites to link to yours and I think you'll give them a run for their money.
Sorry if this reply is depressing...and you just gave them two more links in your post (ooops)

appliance zone shows up 0 times
repair clinic shows up 78 times
partselect show up 1,290 times

Because they didn't want their pages to validate? Putting errors in your pages like this gives no benefit at all.

They have no more value than normal links and they might have less, depending on how the search engines handle them. In Firefox, they don't behave like links but they do appear in the page's cache so who knows whether a search engine views them as links.
You shouldn't have anything after </html> so the question is redundant really.

It's all about the back links and not spamming keywords.
submit your site to directories.

see thats where it gets tough, if backlinks are the way to go, I have a long way to go to catch up with them, they have 4 website designers, and I am on my own, so 4 on 1, :"Let The Backlinks Begin!"

hit up some directories
theres tons out their with free "submit site"
the higher the PR of the incoming link, the better
tis better to have an incoming link and you not reciprocate on your site
