In the former company I worked for, we check the rankings of the sites we handle every single day. Is this a really good practice or is once a week fine? Aren't we becoming too obsessed with rankings by checking it everyday?

lol, depends on how obsessive you want to be. But I would check almost daily after some major linkbacks or promotion is run. Otherwise, once a week should be fine.

It also depends on what you are trying to achieve by checking your rankings so often. What's driving it? Have you got a certain response prepared that's just waiting to get triggered when you have a ranking of X? If not, then is it just curiosity? If it's just curiosity, carry on until you get bored

Whenever you want to avoid doing something else.......

I do check my sites quite regularly (generally when I should be hoovering!) but you shouldn't get too hung up about it - Google has about a 3-month time lapse on whatever you do so there's no point trying to fix something which is probably due to something you did the previous quarter..... It does all even out and there are so many variables (eg which datacentre) that all you can check for is gradual decline/improvement and ignore the hiccups.

It depends on how many keywords handled that you monitor. but I checked my SERPS everyday...

I don't check the keywords on a regular basis except when I make a very good update to my pages content and/or keywords. When I do this, I want to see the effect of these changes, so I check daily or maybe twice in a day.

It's a good practice to check your PR after each PR update. iwebtools has a great tool to do so for free.

as for me, i checked it everyday... it depends on you, i guess..

and i think there's nothing to lose in checking it everyday at least you monitor your SERPS

Don't even bother checking rankings EVER.

It's pretty much worthless.

What you see on one day, someone in the same room will likely be seeing something different.
What you should be checking are are conversions

yup, that right...im just checking my keyword ranking after PR update. Moreover it depend on what your target with that keyword such as SERP monitor..

You can check your rankings anytime you want...

I checked Keyword Rankings Everyday to know if theres a Dance in your Keywords...

And in that way also you can know what are the products or pages you have to give more time or analyzation...

Generally, your time will be better spent checking your traffic levels and conversions. If something changes, up or down, isolate the causes behind that piece of information and investigate appropriately.

I also check my rankings everyday so if ever my rankings decrease atleast I can do something about it.

Why would you want to do that ??

rankings can appear to change in a instant then apparently change back a few hours or a few days later.
Pointless "fire fighting" like that can actually do more harm than good.

A/ No!

So what do you change on your pages then.

Just make a good site that gets conversions and forget about chasing pointless rankings.

Well I guess you would know (seeing as you both have the same sites in your signatures and you are on identical IPs)
