I've read that a lot of people use a spacer gif the same color as their page's background color, to cover text up, so Googlebot will see it, and visitors won't. I'm thinking about doing something like this, but want to know if Google is likely to punish me before I start.
My idea is to make a spacer.png file, probably black, but possibly white, at 15 to 20 % opacity, and then lay it behind some of my text. The idea is this will make the background stand out and bring attention to certain parts of the page. I would probably do this for the table of contents in an article, and possibly the text underneath each of my photos, describing them. I don't know how complex the 'bots are, if they would just assume I'm trying to fool them.
And on that note, VanGogh gave me excellent advice to consolidate my domains with 301s, so the search engines combine links to both of my domains ( one is parked on the other ). My host suggested using the .htaccess file and rewrite conditions to change landscapephoto.us to forrestcroce.com ... would this accomplish the same thing, in terms of search rankings? I got the landscape domain first, and started shooting portraits, so got my name for a domain, and parked it on the other, so I can't set up redirects on the landscape one...
