I noticed today that my internal pages on my website www.smartbro.com dropped from PR4 to PR3! I can't understand why this is happening? The only thing that I kept on doing in the last couple month is building links from these pages to other websites. Can this be the cause of the problem?

the reason is simple . you have lost some of your backlinks

Yeah, but I didn't have any external links that point directly to these internal pages. All the links to these pages were internal. So it doesn't make sense especially b/c I didn't make any changes to the website design.

yes he is right you should check your back links incase thats the probelm if there is any problem i may help you.

Have visitors/conversions from these pages changed ??

If not, why care about an inaccurate, out of date, unimportant piece of data you can do nothing about ?

Well, it's just confusing me to find that my internal pages dropped in PR although I didn't change anything. That's why I'm interested in knowing what's going on.

check ur backlinks. also, xhwxk ther there is no new ?/*/#/%/ in the deep pages url.

I don't whether my issue is better or worse than yours. I got PR update from 0 to 4 for most of my inner pages, but the home and index.htm are still PR1 as before. My domain has 162 backlinks from google and almost 3000 backlinks from yahoo, while less than 10 backlinks for each inner page.

What I'm really trying to understand is how G decides to rank your internal pages. For instance, when I first created my website, it received a PR4 for it and all my internal pages (the main ones), and this remained steady until couple days ago. I know for a fact that no one linked to my internal pages (or at least in major numbers that will get me a PR4 for those pages), so I thought that my internal pages received this page rank b/c of my other internal links to these pages.

Today, I did not change any of my internal links and I did not get any links to my internal pages (nothing actually changed!), but I received this drop in PR. I think G handles the internal pages in a different way than home page.

The only thing that I can think of that's changed is linking from internal pages to other websites as a part of a link exchange campaign. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.

I know that ultimately, BL's are the major player in this, but this means that I should get better PR after doing link exchange, not the opposite.

Why are you spending so much concern over the totally meaningless toolbar display, it's always out of date, will change depending on which DC google happen to send the toolbar queries to at that moment/hour/day, inaccurate because a display of 4 could be 3.5 or 4.4999999999

It could be that the toolbar value was 3.5 (shows 4) and a page with a link to your site was offline last time a update was done and now the value is 3.4999999999999999999 (shows 3)
Why care about a potential change of 0.000000000000000001? it's not like it makes a difference to anything. Unless you sell links to idiots who think it means something of course.
There is nothing you can do to change it so why bother? there are far more important things than can make a difference.

I totally agree with that. But the link exchange guys don't. That's what makes me concerned about this.

That's their stupidity then, and if they are dumb enough to thing that PR is useful, you certainly DON'T want a link from their site.

Have you checked it in livepr.raketforskning.com? It shows different results from different Google Datacenters. Anyway, you should stick on that kind of PR. PR is not so important except if you want link exchanges for faster backlinks (some webmasters target sites with PR).
