My site has been online for about one year now and I just finally got a PR3.

difficult going. Anybody have some tips on getting PR without paying for link placements.

When did this happen? I'm pretty sure google finished their pagerank update I couple of weeks ago. I may be wrong though..

Or offer link exchanges? That's what has worked the most for me.

submit your article to article directory and press release to press release directory.

high pr site and good no. of inbound link will help to increase pr.

Link Exchages are an outdated method of building backlinks to your site. Google can often penalise websites for doing link exchanges (not just a few )

However Link exchanges can be effective for the first few weeks of started the site (it its a new domain) just to get indexed. Natural inbound links are the only real effectgive way of building links and PR

I also got pr 1 for my month old blog and pr2 for another blog.
Well as they say content is king so keep on updating fresh content for better rankings, traffic and all . Its easier said than done though

thats a very long time to get PR3. I got PR4 on my old domain detonable.com in about 3-4 months before selling it. I paid for just a couple links, free directories, and participated in free traffic exchange programs.

No I got PR5 some of my sites within a few updates. But I want to do it without spending any money.

Quickest way to get PR, buy an existing site with PR and just 301 redirect it to yours

bottom line: more backlinks help PR'

You can also give comments on blogs with high PR as it will very effective if you get a link back from there.

Yeah, but that's totally unethical in most cases. If I tried to go to a particular website and got redirected to something about cell phones, I'd be upset.

You can get lot of blogs with decent PR by searching for it on Google. Sort out blogs which are related to your site’s theme and you can post comments there but remember that there are many blogs that have nofollow tag to avoid spamming so its not helpful to get the link crawled by the SE's but at the same time you can get a lot of good traffic from the given link.

I can provide a few reciprocal links for your site, also as mentioned its a good idea to have more information that your vistors need. This usually increases the PR. Further, if you get any government website links it will furhter help to increase the PR.
