Hi all !!!

I am about to change the server of one of my Webs ( www.jmraso.com ) which is and has been in a very good position in Google for the last 2 years, the problem is that my present Server is awful so I will change.

The question is that due to the new I.P. and DNSīs will I lose this positioing in Google whatīs more will I start from scratch ???

Thank you people.

There may be a short perdiod where you see some minor changes, But generally it should have no effect on your rankings.

Unless you new server has some problem with http responses, you should be fine. It's your domain name that matters to google, not the IP.

Of course not!!! If Google just ran down every entry in DNS, you wouldn't see people submitting their sites. Also if they polled DNS, they would know about sites that don't have any inbound links.

Google could care less what your IP address is. Unless one of the four blocks is 69, then they'll assume you're an adult website. ( Sorry, I just made that up. ) But otherwise the only trouble that might happen is if your site goes down during the change.

I have been told by a few hosting provider that my Site will be down for 24-48 hours, which wonīt hurt my positioning really much, the thing is if this timing is true !!!

Jaime
Regards and thank you for the answer.

the site won't be down for 24 - 48 hours at all and any host that says this is definitely the case shouldn't be a host at all!!!
We moved 300 sites on 3 servers to a new datacentre with 15 new IPs in an overnight swap and not one client noticed any downtime.

It can take up to 48 hours for some ISPs who are very slow to update their DNS cache to reflect the changes. But for the vast majority it will be a matter of hours (sometimes minutes)
