I have no idea whether Google looks at country codes to decide where a web site is. No, I lied, actually, I kind of suspect they don't. There are a lot of web sites ending in .tv and things like that, that turn up in general searches. On the other hand, I might be more concerned about your IP showing you're in the States.
But if you'd like a .uk domain regardless, you should get one, park it on top of your .com domain, and throw up redirects.
