Please help me choose my keywords and anchor text

My site is about tutorials. It's still new (about a month) and I want to include only my original tutorials (not like most tutorials sites which are only directories of tutorials sites) and it will have tutorials on many subjects (like photoshop, video editting, SEO, programming, etc). I will add some software that I develop too (maybe 3 or 4).

Because it has many subjects, I got confused what html description tag and what anchor for my signature in forums, tutorials directories and article directories should I use? Because I think a general term like "Free Tutorials" or various tutorials and downloads" won't be good for SEO reasons.
What do you suggest?

"Free Computer Tutorials" maybe?

I'd suggest that you visit www.wordtracker.com and try to do some keyword research. Anything we can come up with probably won't be as good as what this site can.

1/ Forum sigs aren't going to be of any SEO help but should be looked on as getting interested visitors, provided your posts are not just useless "me too" style posts. Being helpful and/or knowledgable in your posts will be of far more value.

2/ Your meta description should be different for each page. It should be written to give a brief description of the page content.
Having keywords in the meta desc element is of little to no use for SERP ranking but can get you better text snippets and help to get clickthroughs.

And just to extend on what Chris said, the meta desc has very no value at all to SEs, and your sig link has very little. The meta description is shown under your link in the search results, so it's the first thing people get a glimpse of about your site - the point here is to write up a description of the page, in a positive way, so people who are interested will be more likely to click. The same thing is basically true for signature links.

Make the anchor text descriptive, but not spammy. And finally, while most SEOs seem to take their favorite keyword and throw everything they've got behind it, you want to do the opposite, and take the shotgun approach. People like stuffing things into one particular category, and do it without thinking; you want to show how the reverse is true for your site.

Thank you for your answers, really helpful. I'd like to add another tool I have found while searching as it could help you too because it was made by Google.

Many times this requires COMMON SENSE and using that round object located just north of your shoulders -- try your search in ALL OF THE SE's LISTED WITH DIFFERENT KEYWORDS!

Another good tool for keyword research:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/ I like it better than the Google Adwords one as it gives searches figures from the previous month

And the results are so badly skewed by rubbish keyword queries from automatic PPC checking tool.

Use it as a very rough guide indeed.
